Cleaning the camera – Before taking pictures, clean the phone’s camera to improve the sharpness of your pictures.
Fingerprints, drops of water on the lens blur your photos. Therefore, always clean your lens with a soft cloth slightly moistened with alcohol and/or water. Sometimes, you won’t have a cloth and alcohol with you, so it’s also worth breathing lightly on the lens (do it only on the phone’s camera, never with a professional lens!) and lightly wipe the lens with your cotton shirt 😃

 

However, most travelers only want to illustrate their feed on social media with vibrant and interesting photos and also get beautiful records of their trips but without carrying three kilos of equipment. So the cell phone is the perfect tool for that, isn’t it?

Composing a photo means knowing how to organize the elements that will become your image. A good composition is clear, directing the viewer’s eye to the photo subject (main object of your photo). A well-composed photo is one that draws attention. Sometimes we do that super-cool-“lucky”-photo, right? But composing good photos intentionally takes practice, because what we see with the naked eye is not always what will be captured by the camera.

 

 

This is rule number one. If you are at the beach or taking pictures of a landscape, make sure the horizon is aligned. A crooked horizon line causes an instant imbalance in the photos. It gives the impression that the frame is falling.

 

 

 

Before taking the photo, activate the guidelines of your cell phone and use them to align the horizon before clicking (Don’t know how to do it? See next tip :)). If you already took the photo and realized after the horizon was crooked, make the adjustment by editing the photo in your phone’s native software or in another editing app.

 

 

 

     Rule of thirds

 

  The Rule of Thirds is one of the most common forms of photographic composition. To use it, just draw an imaginary grid in your frame, formed by two vertical and two proportional horizontal lines (9 rectangles of equal size) and fit in one of the lines or points of intersection of these lines, the subject of interest of the photo.

 

I use this type of composition for portraits and more closed photos (when the elements are closer).

 

 

    Golden Ratio (Phi grid)

 

The rule of thirds as I mentioned above is one of the most famous ways of composing a scene, but I tell you that the most magical of the rules and the one I use the most is the Golden Ratio. It is used as guidelines, based on the Fibonacci Spiral.

The Phi grid, or Golden Ratio, is also a grid similar to rule of thirds, but is based on the mathematical calculation that makes up many universal constructions. From the core of hurricanes to the expansion of galaxies! Renaissance artists like Da Vinci and Botticelli used this proportion in their works, in addition to many famous architectural monuments in the world, such as the Taj Mahal in India and the Acropolis in Greece.

 

 

 

 

But take it easy, nowadays we don’t need to understand the math behind the golden ratio to use it in your photo. (phew 😅)

But if you’re already good in composition and want to try using the Spiral, the result is so cool!

 

 

 

 

There are several types of leading lines in a composition, and by practicing you improve and master these lines in your photos. Take advantage of the fact that digital photography does not limit the number of shoots! As with most skills, photography also requires training.

 

 

 

And the final tip of this post is about natural photo frames. It is a very nice framing technique and very valid for travel photos.
