Moving With a Baby? Here are some tips that may help you 🙂
Moving boxes and holding a crying baby at the same time isn’t going to be easy. But even though it may sound crazy, it’s possible moving with a baby and keeping your sanity!
To ensure a successful move, the recommendation is to plan all of your relocation logistics ahead of time.
Below, we’ve listed some tips to consider when moving with a baby or a small child. Best of luck!
Talk about the move
If you have a toddler, talk to them about the upcoming move. It will help to put them at ease, and understand that a change will come.
When talking to your kid about the move, use simple words, and make the prospect of moving sound like an exciting adventure (and trust me, it will be!).
For newborns, try to keep calm during the moving process, because the baby often picks up stressful emotions.

Make a checklist for your packing process
Box-up what is not essential first. Avoid wasting time hunting for those pacifiers and toys. Keep these things for the end and put all of your baby’s non-essential belongings in boxes labeled “Nursery.”
It’s even better packing all of your baby’s things last. Non-essentials include toys, blankets, clothes and anything else you won’t need on the actual moving day (or immediate days after).
Pack baby essentials and take them with you. These should be the things you’ll need during the moving process. To make your packing easier, there’s an example of a checklist of items to consider when boxing up your baby’s essential elements:
📦 Diapers
📦 Wipes
📦 Clothing
📦 Favorite stuffed animal
📦 A few favorite toys
📦 Breast pump and breast-feeding pillow
📦 Cooler if needed for breastmilk and formula
📦 Formula, juice and/or snacks
📦 Pacifiers
📦 Blanket
📦 Stroller and carrier
📦 Car seat
📦 Extra bags for dirty diapers and messy clothes
📦 Bath items
📦 First aid kit and thermometer
📦 Keep your child as distracted as possible with whatever works: a new toy, activities or (Yes) even an iPad with games and cartoons will help you.
Important: The child’s bedroom should be the very first thing you unpack when moving to your new home. Giving your child a calm and consistent space helps ease them into their new surroundings. Some parents said, unpacking the baby’s room on the first day, they barely noticed they had moved.”
Safety
In case you’re renting a van for the move, there’s probably not a backseat for your baby’s car seat. Just make sure someone you trust will be able to watch your baby while you drive the truck.
Moreover, keep objects, such as scissors and cleaning supplies, away from your child on moving day.
Ask for help
With a move, you’re going to need every extra set of hands possible. So it is important to have a family member or friend to watch your baby during the move or hire a babysitter. While newborns may be easy to contain during a move, curious toddlers are bound to be running all over the place.
Maintain a routine for your baby
When it comes to raising a baby, consistency is fundamental. While maintaining a strict napping and feeding schedule won’t be easy, try your best to keep the baby’s routine as normal as possible during the move. Consistency gives children a sense of security, which is especially important during the stressful moving process. Not to mention, keeping your baby on a schedule will also help the parents maintain their own sanity (!) 😅.
