Telling Special Stories: Super Mom and her Super Boys
Family Photography Calgary
Telling Special Stories is my authorial project for this year. In 2020 I want to tell more stories of other families with my photography.
I believe every family deserves to be celebrated, because what matters in life is the love that exists between people .
So, I will do one session like this for each month of the year!
On the February edition I told the story about Erika and her kids. She lives as a single mom since Samuel, her youngest child was 3 months old.
Come with me to get to know this story:
🦸♀️
During these last three years Erika, Lucas and Samuel have learned that love makes the difference in every situation of our life.
Erika says: “My little Samuel was 3 months old when all these changes happened in our lives. He came to show us that no matter how tough the circumstance you can keep smiling. Beside all that was happening, my kids kept me strong. I had my days when I was feeling sad but never gave up. We moved three times, we went back to Colombia for a few months to stay with my parents. We really needed a rest to organize ideas and try to understand what was next for us”.
“When we came back to Calgary, I didn’t have a job and I really needed one. Finally after 9 months, I found my current job and my kids were able to resume daycare. Luckily, we are surrounded by amazing people, friends and family. They have showed us love and support, I haven’t felt alone. My boys know that this is the shape of our family, that mommy needs their help every morning to get dressed quick and leave on time to daycare and work. They know that mommy works and thinks about them every second of the day, that’s why when it’s time to leave to pick them up she runs and gets there as soon as she can. We love playing superheroes, colouring and taking long warm baths… our Fridays are movie and pizza time “yum yum, fun fun”, when my kids are at home during the weekends, we always enjoy visiting some friend or going to the mall.”
“My main challenge is not having my parents here to help. I found it difficult when my children were sick for a few days and I had to request for more than one day off from work. Also, I found it difficult to share my kids … not always having them with me. My children are still adapting, somedays they miss their father more than on others. Sometimes I’m tired, I don’t want to cook, I just want to go home and relax, but this is not my life, I have two little ones waiting for food, waiting for me to play, put them to bed, wait until they fall asleep. And this is my beautiful chaos.”
“My boys gave me the strength that I needed to overcome this situation. I’m telling them that they are like superheroes with superpowers. Lucas is creative, intelligent, collaborative. Samuel is cheerful, generous, inventive, loving. We are still learning, we are still overcoming, we are still adapting … but we are doing it TOGETHER! ”
